A former piano teacher enters elite company by becoming the latest centenarian in KOTA Territory.
Amongst family and friends, Irene Belzer celebrated her 100th birthday Wednesday at Westhills Village.
She also reached another rare milestone in June of 2012, celebrating her 75th wedding anniversary to her husband Bud, who also reached the century mark, before passing away in March last year.
When asked what the secret to living 100 years was, Irene quickly showed her personality and humble attitude to be very big keys, saying, "You've got to keep breathing that for sure!".
Her son, Buddy Belzer added, "There isn't a time that we visit her that she doesn't have us cracking up and laughing. She's got a great sense of humor."
She gave credit for her longevity to two very important influences in her life,"Having a good family, trusting in the lord. That counts for everything."
Belzer grew up in De Smet and retired in Rapid City in 1985.
She is the mother of 4 children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren.
