Building permit numbers through the end of year indicate that construction activity remains strong for the third straight year.
The building division issued 5,906 permits valued at $244,253,223 during 2013 which is the second largest permit valuation amount since the year 2000.
The last three years have been the first, second, and fourth best years on record.
Since the year 2000 building permit valuation has exceeded $200 million four times including: $212,640,288 in 2007, $258,990,182 in 2011, $207,811,337 in 2012, and $244,253,223 in 2013.
December permits were issued for 13 new single-family houses, an Urgent Care facility at 2116 Jackson Boulevard, and for a softball complex at 4415 Parkview Drive.
Mayor Sam Kooiker says there were 661 new homes and apartments in 2013, compared to 405 in 2012 and 192 in 2010.
