While cleanup in Rapid City from the October blizzard is complete, crews are still out working in Sturgis.
They are clearing debris and cutting hanging branches over public right of ways. Sturgis was hit hard by the storm. Many of the older trees were damaged.
The City of Sturgis is using many of its own workers and they've hired very little contract labor since the original storm cleanup. The weather has sometimes prevented crews from finishing the work.
"The cold snap we just had, it's hard for the guys to be out working in 30 below windchills. So with the nicer weather things will move along faster," said Dave Smith, Disaster Mitigation Specialist for the City of Sturgis.
Smith said if the weather cooperates, they should be done with clean-up in a month.
