Rapid City man sentenced to 25 years for threatening police officers

A Rapid City man will spend 25 years in prison for aggravated assault on two police officers.

Last month, 21-year-old Elijah White Magpie pled guilty to two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Tuesday morning he was sentenced to 25 years for one of the counts and 10 years for the other. They will be served concurrently.

In February at the Rapid City Public Library, White Magpie lunged at two officers with a knife.  One officer was able to get off a shot, injuring White Magpie.  Prosecutors say White Magpie almost killed one of the police officers.

White Magpie wrote a letter that his lawyer read in court, apologizing for his actions.  In the letter, he says he hates the person he was that night, and everything he did.

White Magpie will receive psychiatric care while in prison. He will be eligible for parole when 50 percent of his sentence is complete.
