Rapid City Plumber's advice during cold snap: keep water running

Posted:

Cold weather can be uncomfortable and inconvenient especially when the water pipes freeze.  Homes with water pipes outside can be subject to wind and harsh cold conditions. And despite taking measures like covering pipes with heat tape and insulations, water can still freeze inside of pipes.

Dave Rohrer also known as 'Plumber Dave' has some advice to avoid frozen pipes. "You've got to be on the defense, when Mr. Modrick tells you it's going to be really cold outside, then it's time to run your water at night, flush your toilet every time you walk by in the middle of the night, turn all the facets on, play defense," said Rohrer. He says this will keep the water flowing and unable to freeze.

Rohrer says running water, creating a more expensive water bill would not be as expensive as hiring a plumber.
