Cold weather in Black Hills has little affect on hardware sales

With another cold snap approaching, it may seem like a time to get homes and cars equipped for the freezing temperatures, but not necessarily.

Hardware Hank in Rapid City has everything someone might need to get through the cold spell including heat tape, window insulations, space heaters and vehicle gas line anti-freeze.

But Hardware Hank Manager Dan French says he doesn't see these items flying off the shelves right now. He says weatherizing sales really depend on how long the cold will last.

"People can put up with quite a bit for a couple of days but when it gets to be a week, it gets to be really old and people want to get back to comfortable living, that's where you see a big spike in sales," said French.

French says since the Black Hills have experienced extreme cold conditions already this winter, there is no big change in sales.
