It was a rush to the finish, but organizers of the United Way of the Black Hills exceeded their fundraising goal for 2013.
With the help of volunteers who made calls for donations, they surpassed their goal on New Year's Eve. They ended up raising almost $55,000 more than last year.
In total they raised $2,342,819. The money will go towards 52 non-profit organizations in the Black Hills.
"It's a wonderful feeling when you know that each of the organizations that we support are going to get the funding that they so desperately need and they deserve that," said Renee Parker, Executive Director of the United Way of the Black Hills.
In Rapid City alone they raised nearly $2 million.
