RC police officers say the day New Year's Eve falls on doesn't impact crime

Posted:

New Year's Eve fell in the middle of the week this year. But the day of the holiday didn't make much difference to police officers.

Rapid City police say the amount of criminal activity is more or less the same. They say on New Year's Eve, since people have the next day off, they see the same sort of activity as if it fell on a weekend.

According to police, New Year's Day was quiet but the night before they were out in full force and had plenty to do.

"We were busy last night, pretty much call to call. The holidays seem to be a little busier than your normal weekend," said Sergeant Scott Sitts, with the Rapid City Police Department.

On New Year's Eve there were more officers patrolling the area than usual.
