"American Hustle" movie may bring attention to Pressler campaign

Posted:

Former U.S. Senator Larry Pressler is using a new movie about ABSCAM to bring relevancy to his 2014 campaign. Pressler made a campaign stop in Rapid City this afternoon. The Republican running as an Independent.

Says a recent article in the Washington post mentions him, along with ABSCAM and the new movie "American Hustle", Pressler was one of the only senators to be on record to turn down bribes related to the scandal. While his actions were not mentioned in the movie, he believes it speaks to the 2014 U.S. Senate campaign and limiting government.

Although, he admits, he doesn't think the movie's release will do much for his campaign, "I don't think it will play much of a role. I think the average citizen if you say to them vote for me because I turned down a bribe they would probably slam you down, and I wouldn't say that because I don't feel that way. I don't think it's any different than most people would do."

Pressler said in the Washington Times article quote: "Nobody cares about the story of a guy who did the right thing. Had I taken the bribe and gone into rehab, it probably would have been seen as an American success story."
