For years Wyoming was known to typically have the lowest gas prices of the region, but that's not the case during this holiday travel season.
AAA reports the average price for a gallon of gas in Wyoming is $3.08. That's eight cents higher than Montana and 15 cents higher than Rapid City. Wyoming is also one of the few states in the region with gas prices higher than this point a year ago.
Wyoming drivers are starting to notice and are disappointed to see the changing trend.
"We're on our way up to Helena, and we just had a conversation with my family as to where gas was cheapest and we just got half a tank here and we're going to get the rest in Billings," said Aaron Trembath of Sheridan.
"It's kind of hard to understand because we've got so much oil and gas here so it doesn't make much sense that we're actually higher than these other states," said Michael File of Cody.
Earlier this year a ten cent per gallon gas tax went into effect in Wyoming to help pay for highway maintenance projects.
