It was a homecoming fit for heroes Monday morning, following the return of 124 National Guard Soldiers from Afghanistan.
With sirens blaring, local law enforcement led the three busloads of soldiers from the 235th Military Police Company to their welcome home ceremony at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
After spending nine months in Afghanistan, the soldiers returned to the U.S. last week, and have been completing demobilization requirements at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Many of the military police officers in the company are also police officers, sheriff deputies and highway patrol troopers here at home, making their return especially meaningful for local law enforcement leading the escort.
