Local businesses benefit from holiday shoppers in downtown Rapid City

Malls and chains stores are busy for the holidays, But local businesses in KOTA Territory are also attracting holiday shoppers.
Rich Baumann, owner of Neugebauer's Fine Jewelry, says it's been a good holiday season. Numbers in November were very strong, and sales for December for right on track. Baumann says there has been an upward trend over the past few years.

But of course, the holiday season requires extra work. "The staff just works a little bit harder, we all put in more hours, we found that's always best," said Baumann. "We increase the inventory levels, we stay open a little bit longer."
Clancy Kingsbury, Who's Hobby House owner, says it's also been a good holiday season at his store. Kingsbury says as long as people can drive, the store does pretty well.

And even with the October blizzard and cold weather Hobby House has around the same numbers as last holiday season, with one exception. "Yesterday was the best single-day sales we've had since 2005, so I'm very happy with that," said Kingsbury.

Both Neugebauer's and Who's Hobby House have been in operation for decades.
