Jason Ravnsborg enters the Republican U.S. Senate primary

Posted: Updated:

A South Dakota U.S. Senate seat is up for grabs with Senator Tim Johnson (D) not seeking re-election, and another candidate has just announced he will be running.

Thirty seven year old Jason Ravnsborg has entered the U.S. Senate race as a Republican.  He is an attorney from Yankton. And he is a major in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Ravnsborg hopes to focus on reducing the deficit and repealing Obamacare.

He says despite his lack of political experience he is here to represent the people. "I have not run for political office before but I see that as a positive, there a lot of career politicians that work and are not responsive to the people. I am not beholden to any special interests or groups, I am only responsive to the people," said Ravnsborg.

Ravnsborg says he will begin collecting signatures for his candidacy on January 1, 2014.

Others seeking the GOP nomination include former Gov. Mike Rounds, state Sen. Larry Rhoden, state Rep. Stace Nelson and Annette Bosworth, a Sioux Falls physician.
