RCPD ramps up DUI enforcement efforts

Drivers take note: Throughout December, the Rapid City Police Department will be conducting DUI saturations and participating in DUI checkpoints.  Safe driving continues to be a focus for law enforcement, as last year RCPD officers made 878 DUI arrests.  So far in 2013, the police department has made more than 850 DUI arrests.

The RCPD will ramp up patrol staffing throughout the month, with law enforcement officers specifically assigned to locate impaired drivers. Although DUI enforcement is an ongoing priority year-round, officers will be extra vigilant throughout the holidays, looking for impaired drivers, underage drinking, and seatbelt violations.

Drivers should be reminded to make smart choices, wear their seatbelts, and enjoy a safe holiday season.

The RCPD would also like to remind everyone to call law enforcement at (605)394-4131 or 911 if they observe a driver they believe to be impaired. Your call could help make the streets safer for everyone.
