Two men from Ohio are making a cross-country road trip to Pine Ridge to deliver gifts to people in need.
But they were sidelined in Sioux Falls after an early morning car accident.
Things were looking grim until a good Samaritan came to their rescue.
These two men are on a mission, to bring toys and gifts from Ohio to people at the Pine Ridge reservation.
Bill Sturgil said "this time of year is tough for a lot of people and I really feel like the people there, it's a tough time, so we just wanted to bring, so it would be a blessing to a few people. and that was our goal that we set out to do."
Until they ended up in Sioux Falls, by accident, when their van filled with goods hit a snow bank on I-29, and is now out of commission.
"When the accident happened, I had this feeling like ok, I was not so much worried about the van but how are we going to get this stuff out to them," Sturgil said.
Then, when Joe Marrowbone, someone they've never met, heard about their car troubles from a friend of a friend, he gave them a place to stay.
"They're on a mission and I would hate to see them not make it, because they came a long way (laughs)," Marrowbone said.
But the good Samaritans also belong to a church with a mission of its own.
"This church here needs to send a bus to the reservation themselves because they're giving a bus to a ministry there because they want to help kids and get them on a bus to take them to activities," Sturgil said.
So the spirit of giving could bring this opportunity of people helping people helping people, full circle.
"We might have a chance of getting stuck here, getting blessed by this family, helping this ministry out by taking a bus that somebody else has so it just seems like it's kind of one amazing cycle," Sturgil said.
Bill and his pastor raised more than $3,000 to buy toys, blankets, heaters and other gifts for Pine Ridge families.
