Sanford Lab evacuated underground staff after seismic activity

Sanford Underground Research Facility safely evacuated personnel from its underground facilities after seismic activity was detected at the Davis Campus, 5,000, 2,000 and the Ross Dry. The activity was felt around 8:50 a.m.

"The evacuation was called as a precaution. The safety of our staff and researchers is paramount and we are grateful they are all safe," said Mike Headley, executive director at Sanford Lab.

Lab personnel will begin inspecting the underground to ensure there are no unusual circumstances before allowing re-entry.

Lawrence County Emergency Management was notified and on standby at Sanford Lab.
