Waterline break causes damage to 6 Deadwood businesses

A waterline break in Deadwood has caused severe flooding at several casinos and hotels.

Six businesses on Main Street are flooded from the Saturday waterline break, and owners are still mopping up.

One of the businesses affected is the Bullock Hotel. The basement of the hotel was completely flooded. This time of year, the basement is used for Christmas parties and Karaoke.

Assistant General Manager, Lucy Pearson says they saw three inches of water - causing damage to the bar. She says they have experienced some flooding in the past, but this is by far the worst.

"We've got two pumps running. We've squeegeed water, sucked up water with the carpet shampooer, dumped it down the drain pipes. It's a lot of water," said Pearson.

Pearson suspects the waterline break happened due to the extreme cold because the heat was turned off in an empty, unheated building.
