The slopes open at Terry Peak in the Black Hills

With their faces wrapped, hot packets by their toes, and layers upon layers of warm clothes, people hit the slopes today at one KOTA Territory mountain for opening weekend.

Linda Derosier, Terry Peak's marketing director, says it's one of the best opening weekends at Terry Peak. Derosier says this is because of the condition of the snow, all the chairs were up and running, and most of the terrain was open as well.

Derosier says the mountain is off to a great start, which has Terry Peak employees hopeful the rest of the season will be just as good.

Despite the below-zero temperatures, Derosier says people came to ski and board. "We had plenty of brave souls out there. If you bundled up it wasn't that bad," said Derosier.

One boarder says the cold weather wasn't going to keep him from the slopes. "I go to opening day, or opening weekend, every year, so I wasn't about to miss this; dedication," said Austin Trout.

Terry Peak will be closed this week Monday through Friday, but will open again Saturday December 14 for the rest of the season, operating seven days a week.
