Governor Daugaard proposes money for pine beetle suppression

Posted:

In the past Governor Daugaard has set aside money to fight the pine beetle epidemic. Now he is proposing $350,000 for pine beetle suppression on state land.

Right now beetle suppression for counties is not in the new state budget. Last year, counties received a $two million grant from the state for mountain pine beetle programs. Pennington County alone received $670,000 in grant funding to fight the beetles.

Members of the Black Hills Regional Mountain Pine Beetle working group say they look forward to working with legislators on the pine beetle issue.
