RC fire crews extinguish house fire

Posted:

Around 6:45 a.m. The Rapid City Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire located at 1012 12th St. When they arrived crews found smoke showing from the eaves of the structure. Fire was found in the attic with signs of fire in the laundry room/back door located at the rear of the house.

Crews utilized an Aerial Ladder to cut a vent whole in the roof. Additional crews pulled parts of the ceiling and walls around the possible location of the fire, to expose any hidden fire. The fire was quickly extinguished with no responder injuries reported.

Three adults and three children were evacuated from the structure. One of the residents reported hearing noises and upon investigating noticed there was a possible fire. The residence did have properly working smoke alarms.

Red Cross was dispatched to provide support and comfort care for the residence.

The fire is currently under investigation by the Rapid City Fire Department Prevention Division and partnering agencies.
