State will not seek death penalty for Rapid City murder case

Posted:

The death penalty is off the table for Michael Young, who is accused of stabbing and killing his pregnant ex–girlfriend, Morgan Myers.

Mark Vargo, Pennington County State's Attorney, said the case does not meet the specific criteria needed to sentence Young to death.

Young, 31, faces numerous charges, including first degree murder, fetal homicide, felony violation of protection order and stalking. Police said he stabbed Myers, 30, several times as she was leaving the Rapid City Walmart parking lot in April 2012; killing her and her unborn child.
