Fund established to replace storm damaged Rapid City park trees

A fund has been started to replace trees lost during the October blizzard.

The Rapid City Public Parks Foundation has established the "ReTree Rapid City" fund. The goal of the project is to provide money to purchase more than 300 trees to be re–planted in city parks.

Foundation Chair Eileen Dixon Fleishacker says the trees will cost between $200 and $300 dollars each, and the group is also seeking matching grants to help fund the restoration project.

Fleishacker says that replacing the trees will be an ongoing venture and will take several years.
