SD Guard unit back on U.S. soil

Eighteen Soldiers of the 129th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, South Dakota Army National Guard, arrived in the United States Monday, Nov. 18, after serving a nine-month deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Members of the Rapid City-based 129th arrived in Fort Dix, N.J., and will spend about a week here completing de-mobilization requirements before returning to South Dakota.

The 129th's mission was to provide public affairs guidance to the units and commands stationed at the four bases the MPAD was assigned to. They provided media escort, print and broadcast news and training for Afghanistan Army public affairs personnel.

No details of the unit's arrival to South Dakota or welcome home ceremony are known at this time. Details of the unit's arrival home will be made available to the public as soon as they are confirmed.
