A man instrumental in implementing early age education of KOTA Territory children was honored Wednesday.
Youth and Family Services hosted a farewell gathering to its departing YFS Rural Head Start Director Bernie Peterson.
He started his career with YFS in 1984 and was a champion for the head start program, providing children with all the educational tools to be successful in life.
After 29 years on the job, he says is looking forward to retirement but he feels blessed to have had the opportunity to have served the community and help area youth, "It's hard to let go of something meaningful but i know that the program is in good hands with a lot of good employees that know what they're doing & why they're doing it".
Rapid City Mayor Sam Kooiker named November 15th, Peterson's last official day on the job, as "Bernie Peterson Day".
