Suspect busted after second Rapid City casino robbery; identified from surveillance photo

A Rapid City robbery suspect is in jail.

Scott Richards, age 41, of Hot Springs was arrested over the weekend after allegedly holding up the Happy Jacks Casino on Mount Rushmore Road.

Police Spokesperson Tarah Heupel says a man, armed with a handgun, demanded money from the elderly clerk then forced her to the back room so he could flee.   That same day, police received a tip from the public identifying Richards as the man in seen on surveillance photos from a separate Happy Jacks Casino robbery on Saint Patrick Street a few weeks earlier.

When police located Richards at the Stardust Motel on East North Street, he allegedly ran from a room throwing wads of cash.

He was arrested (after police were forced to use a taser) and charged with first degree robbery, theft, false impersonation, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, resisting arrests and several warrants.
