New York Times best selling author makes a stop in KOTA Territory

Poultry and fairy tales?

It's quite an odd pairing but the two came together at one local library.

As part of a 24 market national tour promoting her latest book "Cinders: A Chicken Cinderella", the Rapid City Public Library at General Beadle Elementary played host to Jan Brett.

The childrens author and illustrator has sold over 38 million books and has occupied the number one slot of the "New York Times Best Seller List" a number of times.

Brett says that the tour is a nice break from writing and gives her a chance to connect with her readers on a deeper level, "My books, it takes me an hour to do an inch, so I'm pretty much locked away in my art studio most of the year and this is my time for getting out & visiting with kids. It's great!".

She says the inspiration for the book was her own flock of award winning chickens, some of which she brought with her.

The book tour continues Wednesday with another KOTA Territory stop in Scottsbluff.
