Carrying the badges of fallen firefighters, 50 people hiked a trail at Hanson-Larsen Memorial Park.
To remember the 343 firefighters who died during the 911 attacks, people hiked a four mile trail Saturday morning.
Tammy Stadel, event coordinator, says it is important for people to remember and honor these heroes. The registration fee was $25 and all the proceeds are going to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
There's an important reason why this memorial event was a hike. "The trade centers were 110 stores, so we don't have any buildings in this area that are that tall, so we tried to find something that was going to be the equivalent to 110 stories," Stadel.
Memorial hikes are held across the country. This is the first time a hike was held here, but Stadel says she plans on trying to make it an annual event.
