Nexus USA payment company plans advertising push

Posted:

After a strong summer, the company pushing for people "to pay with their finger" is gearing up for another push.

Nexus USA started its pilot program at the School of Mines last December; allowing students and facility to pay using fingerprints.

Active members grew to more than 500 last summer with an advertising campaign utilizing Antonio Banderas and the popularity of Summer Nights.

The company since added Seattle's Best Coffee and Ifrits Hookah Lounge downtown as merchants.

Signups for the systems have since slowed, but staff say starting later this month, they hope to attract more members with another advertising campaign and more merchants opening up.

"The opportunity to spread throughout the world: that's exactly what we're looking for. This is just kind of a starting point," said Nexus USA president Alan Maas.

Maas says starting November 18, Nexus will offer the system to any merchant in town.
