With just seven weeks left in the United Way campaign, the organization is reporting that they are $1 million short of meeting the funding goals set for their 52 local non-profit organizations that provide assistance for those in need.
"Meeting goal is extremely important to the organizations that rely on the support they receive through United Way," said Executive Director, Renee Parker. "The services that are provided by these organizations are critically needed in all of the communities we serve."
Donations stay in the area where they are raised to provide essential services and help solve community problems. Food and other emergency assistance, shelter for victims of domestic violence, counseling and advocacy for those who are struggling are a few of the services provided by United Way organizations.
"Although we had a very strong start to the campaign raising more than ever in September, contributions have slowed considerably since the blizzard," said Parker. "Our focus has been on providing services to those who have been impacted by the devastating storm."
United Way organizations mobilized with other community partners to provide immediate assistance. "The response from these organizations was amazing," said Parker. "It is gratifying to see so many of our agencies working together to lend a hand during this time." American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Social Services, and Lutheran Social Services are just a few of the United Way organizations that have been on the front line since the disaster.
United Way volunteers will continue to work hard to raise the funding necessary to provide valuable services to the most vulnerable population throughout Black Hills area.
Donating has never been easier. Donations can be made online at (www.unitedwayblackhills.org), by mail, or phone. For more information on how to contribute, contact United Way of the Black Hills at 343-5872 or at 621 Sixth Street, Suite 100, Rapid City, SD 57701.
The United Way fundraising campaign ends on December 31, 2013.
