The future is looking bright for Rapid City and citizens are getting in on the ground floor of planning. Rapid City community members have been helping plan the future of Rapid City. Community member are sharing their ideas of where neighborhoods, shops and parks should go and how the city should be structured to benefit the community.
A series of interactive community meetings was hosted by Clarion Associates, the company hired to do the comprehensive plan for the future Rapid City.
Darcie White of Clarion Associates says it is important to involve the community. "Gotten input by as many as folks as we could in terms of what they would like to see the city be in the future so thinking about your kids and your grand kids what would like rapid city to be like when they live here" White says.
Community members like Karen Gunderson Olson says there has to be community input to plan a project like this. She says "the best way to find out what people think should happen is to talk to them about when you talk to people and get them involved and then they have some investment and community that prospects and does better in a community that has investment by citizens."
The future planning began in May and the first draft of the plans will be due in January.
