Homeowners on West Boulevard in Rapid City were not happy that a tree, already professionally trimmed of broken branches, was cut down by Ceres, a company brought in to clear debris. Now the company's work is being reviewed.
An urban forester will see if the proper trees were removed. There is another company called Leidos that has been monitoring Ceres' work.
Ceres was hired to remove hanging branches and trees that are considered a liability. If trees removed are FEMA eligible, the city will be reimbursed.
Terry Wolterstorff, Rapid City Public Works Director, said homeowners on West Boulevard wanted to wait and see if the trees would heal.
"But our contractor had removed them. We've been communicating with those property owners trying to explain the standards that we're trying to use. And it just really was an unfortunate situation," said Wolterstorff.
So far Ceres has removed 20 thousand cubic yards of debris.
