City of Spearfish pushes for curbside recycling

Spearfish city leaders hope there's enough interest in recycling among residents that they sign up for what is the latest effort to bring reprocessing to town.
The city has tried unsuccessfully for years to make the service economical.

City Council has voted to solicit vendors who could provide curbside recycling to determine the cost.
The rates would be based on the number of people who sign up, so the more who participate, the more affordable recycling would be.
City administrator Joe Neeb says that if a quarter of the more than 4,000 eligible residents sign up, the cost could be around $6 per month. If that mark isn't reached, then it would be too expensive and the project would not go forward.
