PIERRE, S.D. – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of foods with possible listeria contamination that have been distributed nationwide, including in South Dakota. The recall includes a wide variety of refrigerated ready-to-eat deli-type foods processed by Reser's Find Foods. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled products.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems. Healthy people may suffer only short term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant woman.
