Rapid City HS biology class takes the classroom outdoors

Students at Rapid City High School take the classroom outside to get a little hands–on learning.

Frances Linn's biology class went to Rapid Creek at Founders Park Thursday.

They tested the water for E–coli.

Students teamed up with Dr. Megan Burke from RESPEC Consulting to learn how to take proper water samples for testing.

Linn got the idea for the project from last year's E–coli warnings at sections of Spring Creek and Mitchell Lake and thought students would enjoy the opportunity to see how real science is done.

The samples taken Thursday will go to Energy Labs in Rapid City to be analyzed.
