It was a busy day at the Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange Thursday as ranchers sold their calves.
At noon, something unusual happened. The same calf was auctioned off over and over again until the number reached around $30,000.
Wyoming Rancher Scott Ryan says he and his wife wanted to help raise money for the South Dakota Rancher's Relief Fund, so they donated a calf and asked to do a rollover auction.
Scott says he wants the ranchers devastated in the October blizzard to find some hope. "It would be heartbreaking enough the financial end of it, but the emotional end for those guys have to be just terrible. If they could have just a little bright spot in something that would be a plus for them I'm sure," said Scott.
According to a Black Hills Area Community representative, $200,000 have been donated to the Rancher's Relief Fund, with an additional $200,000 pledged verbally.
