Quite a few School of Mines students ditched their cars Wednesday and biked or walked to school staying true to the 'Drive to No Drive' pledge.
As part of Campus Sustainability Day, students, faculty and staff at the school pledged to reduce their carbon impact for the day by using alternative transportation. The goal is to promote green living that extends beyond just today.
In addition to the pledge, the school now offers reusable food containers. Students can purchase the to-go containers for just $5, and when they're done using them, food service staff will clean and return them. "Everyone can do their part, even if it's changing how you get places or how you eat," SDSM&T staff member Jennifer Hauf said.
Also Wednesday morning, food service staff weighed the breakfast waste to show students exactly how much food is wasted each day.
The school also offers a relatively new sustainability engineering program.
