Those who lost livestock during the storm are still picking up the pieces. Most will have to tighten their belts, financially which will impact Rapid City. For instance, some ranchers will not be able to spend as much money here because of the financial burden from the losing livestock, not to mention the disposal and restocking costs.
Silvia Christen of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association says ranchers won't be buying trucks, eating at restaurants and participating in activities here because they just don't have the money. She says "this is going to have an impact on Rapid City, most of these producers their financial institution are based here, there attorney services are based here, there feed and impact cost some are here."
