Residential and commercial developments throughout Rapid City are making great progress according to one design company's president.
Hani Shafai with Dream Design says the Elk Crossing project on Elk Vale Rd. in North Rapid City is on schedule to be finished within five years.
The $75 to $100 million project plans includes 216 apartments, commercial development, a public school and 38 houses.
These come on top of the already 80 occupied homes on the lot.
"Well actually it's an ongoing construction, non-stop because the demand is really high," said Shafai. "The interest in that sub-division is huge because of the quality of construction, the quality of life, and it's really great."
Shafai is also excited to announce more housing for students by the end of the current semester.
Dream Design has been renovating the former National American University in downtown Rapid City.
The new $4.5 million student housing building has 100 rooms, ready for students only.
"That's why we're subsidizing the rent and keeping it affordable for them because we really want to enhance the quality of education and encourage kids to be able to come the city," said Shafai.
And ground breaking for another $100 million project in North Rapid City, Orchard Meadows will be in two to three weeks.
The 200 acre lot will include, apartments, homes, medical clinics, commercial development, and more.
