Box Elder celebrates Founder's Day

Dozens of people braved the wind, rain, and cold Sunday to celebrate the founding of their community.

Sunday the City of Box Elder held its 49th Founder's Day celebration.

A 10-vehicle parade kicked off the celebration. Involved were the Box Elder Police and Fire Department, who were showing off their new truck. Also the Pennington County Sheriff's Office and Highway Patrol drove through the streets throwing candy to spectators.

City representatives then welcomed the community for sloppy joes, carnival games, and showcases for local vendors.

Even though the weather forced the event to be moved indoors, organizers saw it as a positive.

"This is the first big community event that we're able to use this nice new event center, and we're excited to let everybody see it and experience it," said Tanya Shepersky, Box Elder Information Officer.

The event center opened last July.

The original Founder's Day was October 6th, but the date was postponed due to the blizzard.
