The InterTribal Buffalo Council celebrated joining the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday.
Ervin Carlson, InterTribal Buffalo Council president, says the council joined forces with Rapid City to raise more awareness about what the organization does. Carlson says the main goal is to bring buffalo back to the tribes.
Currently the buffalo council works with 58 tribes in 19 states. The buffalo are being brought back to the tribes for a healthy diet and other reasons. "For our cultural and spiritual connection to the animal, and so that's our biggest goal in bringing those animals back to our people, to the tribes," said Carlson.
Carlson says the organization adds a new tribe to the list of ones they help every year.
