The Prairie Hills Transit Board met Tuesday to discuss potential closures of the Belle Fourche and Butte County transit systems.
In order for the transit to keep running in both areas, between $10,000 and $12,000 is needed.
Management of Prairie Hills Transit recently approached Butte County commissioners regarding funding and was turned down. They also approached Belle Fourche which offered $2,000, a significant decrease from last year.
While the Federal Government does fund some of the finances, Prairie Hills relies on fares, outside donations and the cities they run in for funding.
According to the Executive Director of Prairie Hills Transit, Barb Cline, without these transit systems many will have no way of getting around.
"There's people that need it," said Cline. "If they aren't able to receive the services in Belle Fourche many will be forced to move to another community so they can get central services, like doctor's, groceries, all those kinds of things."
The transit systems in Belle Fourche and Butte County will be forced to close November 15th if no funding is found.
