Belle Fourche Chamber may get the boot from visitor center

On Monday night, the Belle Fourche city council unanimously decided that the services of the Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce will no longer be necessary for the operation of the Center of the Nation's Visitor Center.

The chamber now has until April 11th, when their lease ends, to move out.

"Being tucked away on a side street is a step back for the community," said Executive Director of the Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce, Teresa Schanzenbach. "Our fore fathers back in 1994 realized that they wanted to give the chamber a more professional image and that's why they built this building and it has worked marvelously for years."

"We've had three years of task force meetings to no avail," said  Belle Fourche Mayor, Gary Hendrickson. "So with that being said there needs to be a change and the council felt this would be the change that they're going to go with."

A new chamber location has not yet been determined.
