Bringing the community together to help. The vice president of South Dakota VOAD, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, says this network of agencies will provide assistance to those affected by the storm.
That was the main message at Thursday's press conference in the CSAC building. Kathy Chesney, vice president, says the immediate goal is to make sure people have food and shelter, then move on to cleaning up debris.
Need help from VOAD?
Those wishing to volunteer can also use the numbers above. VOAD will send volunteers to places with the most need. "Sometimes it's hard for the resilient Dakotans to ask for help. We're proud and have learned to stand on our own two feet, but it's such a gift that people can be given when they allow people to come help," says Chesney.
Monetary donations are also being accepted here. Contributions can also be mailed to BHACF/BH Disaster REcovery Relief Fund, PO Box 231, Rapid City, SD 57709.
