KOTA Territory Family of 10 homeless after fire

Posted:

A KOTA Territory family of 10, two parents and eight kids, is homeless following a fire.   The Rondestvedt family,  was able to get out of their house on Big Horn Lane unharmed after their house caught fire Wednesday morning around 7 o'clock.

The house is located on a very narrow road south of Sheridan Lake Road.  Since there were no hydrants nearby, firefighters had to haul and pump water to the house. Additionally, there was another concern. "There was some concern for awhile that we may have a forest fire or trees on fire but that's all been taken care of now," Denny Gorton with the Rapid City Fire Department said.

The Red Cross put the family up in a hotel and is helping take care of their immediate needs.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

While firefighters won't say whether the house is a total loss, they did say all of their possessions are most likely destroyed.

Monetary donations may be made at any First Interstate Branch for the Rondestvedt Family Fire Fund.
