Judges say the Meade County Courthouse is old and inefficient. It doesn't comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. So upgrades are coming to the 50 year old building.
Commissioners want to improve the courthouse, but do it in phases. The entire project will cost $7 million.
The first phase of the project will include upgrades to the bathrooms and elevators and will cost $775,000. However, commissioners and judges were not in total agreement with details of the project.
"I think we're still not totally aligned with what the final piece will look like, but everybody's been happy to be moving forward," said Linda Rausch, Meade County Commissioner.
The goal is to have the upgrades to the elevators and bathrooms completed by the end of the year.
