Projects to construct new soccer and softball facilities in Rapid City are in need of funding.
Construction on the new soccer facility has begun but the plans have hit a financial bump in the road . About 650,000 dollars is needed to complete the water and sewage work on the facility. Engineers were planning to dig wells to provide the facility with water but those plans fell through. Now the public works department is looking for funds to continue the water phase of the project.
The public works department is also 510,000 dollars short for their Amateur Softball Association softball facility project. With the plans in place, public works director Terry Wolterstoff is asking that the money come from the vision fund. "We did open bids on this projects today, good news is we the estimates came in under our engineers estimates, bad news engineers estimate still show a shortage of funding" Wolterstoff said.
He said "We looking at a deficit of about 510 thousand dollars."
The council decided to take money from projects that will take more time and put that money into the softball project.
