If cooler temperatures don't indicate that it's fall yet, how about some very large pumpkins?
Around 20,000 people crowded the downtown area of Rapid City Saturday at the 5th Annual Pumpkin Festival.
There was plenty of fall foods and activities but all eyes were on the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off.
Pumpkins weighing nearly 1000 pounds were on display, and their gardeners were up for cash prizes.
Festival Committee Chair, Beth Hottel, says because Rapid City is a certified weigh-off site, the competition is a great way to bring out-of-state tourists looking to visit the Black Hills, and maybe take home some cash.
Some of the pumpkins were so big that a fork-lift had to be used to move the orange giants.
The winning pumpkin belongs to Gary Rodine, it weighed in at 955.8 lbs.
He received $1,000.
