They are called upon approximately 20 times per year and play a vital role in recovery operations throughout KOTA Territory.
The Rapid City/Pennington County Water Rescue Team spent the afternoon at Pactola practicing search patterns to recover 5" objects in up to 20 feet of water as part of a training exercise.
Comprised of people from various Pennington County first response agencies, the 18 member team performs missions all year round.
Water Rescue team leader Brian Povandra says they are called upon for a number of different scenarios, "Anywhere from evidence recovery, finding knives, guns, wallets, keys, anything that the law enforcement requests us to go search for in the water, up to if a person drowns".
The team used today's exercise as part of the certification process for its 3 newest members.
