36-year-old Alfredo Vargas is on trial for allegedly trying to make his ex–girlfriend have a miscarriage by spiking her soda with labor inducing herbs during the early stages of her pregnancy.
Thursday morning, the state's witness, an obstetrician, testified that the second and third months are most important in human development. He says that's when organs are developed.
Vargas faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison if found guilty. The trial is scheduled through Friday.
