Backpack Program fills the weekend gap for needy families

September is "Hunger Action Month, an important community program is doing its part to make sure kids do not go hungry.

Tuesday, volunteers filled bags for the "Backpack Program" by " Feeding South Dakota".

The bags are packed with food to sustain needy families with healthy & easy to prepare food for weekends.

Backpack program coordinator Ryan Chocholoushek says the program was designed with a specific goal in mind, "when the children show up for school Monday morning & all they can think about is when they are going to get there next meal, that does not lead to an environment for learning "

This is the 8th year for the program and feeds more than 1700 kids in KOTA Territory.
